Here’s Bob St. John, who engineered most (or all?) of the Extreme albums on Nuno’s tone:
That “tone” is a question that is asked more than any other. I wish I could make people happy and say it was “this piece of gear” or “that piece of gear.” But that sound is what comes from Nuno.
Although you may be inclined to say that Nuno is a derivative of so many other ’80s guitar players, I feel that he is in a class by himself. That sound is more a function of his technique and the way he hears things and interacts. I’ve recorded Nuno playing through Marshalls and Hiwatts, Laneys and Fenders, Ampfarm and a Rat pedal direct. They all sound uniquely like him. Go figure.

​Extreme 앨범의 대부분 (또는 전부)에서 누노의 톤을 엔지니어링 한 Bob St. John입니다.

그 "톤"에 대한 것은 다른 어떤 것보다 많은 질문입니다. 나는 그것이 "이 장비다" 또는 "저 장비다"라고 말해서 사람들을 행복하게 할 수 있다면 좋겠습니다. 하지만 그 소리는 누노가 만들어 낸 것입니다.

90% of the sound of a guitar player is creasted by his hands, and it wouldn’t matter much which amp he/she uses, if it’s at least in the same distortion range.

ㅜㅜ.........어느정도 이펙터 및 앰프가 갖추어져 있다면 기타연습이나 열심히하는게 바람직할것 같다. 기타 사운드의 끝은 오른손의 터치라는 평범한 진리인데 보통 개성있는 연주자들을 제외하고는 아마추어 플레이어들의 심리가 더 나은 장비를 사용하면 더 독특하고 좋은 소리가 날것 같죠. ㅋㅋ

we tried to recapture it...but there was no way.

the guitar tone was made with one of those battery powered marshall amps (the little tiny portable version).

 nuno explained to me that he was in a hotel room (all of these demos were recorded during the extended extreme II tour) and he wanted to do the solo so BAD.

but all the microphones were packed away...all he had was the multitrack equipment, the portable amp (and the batteries were nearly dead) and a pair of headphones.

he was desparate...he had an idea and he need to do it NOW.

so, he plugged the headphones into the mic input on the console...duct taped the headphones to the little marshall amp;

and started to play the solo. that is why that tone is so bizarre...as the amp was on the verge of shutting off.
